Dance of the Spirals is a large art quilt created with intertwining patchwork spirals.
Each spiral develops its own unique shape and energy, then join stogether to interact like dancers on the dance floor or like tendrils reaching for the sun. “Tendrils” was the original name of this quilt.
Drawing a spiral with a pencil is easy, so it may be hard for the non-quilter to understand how difficult and exhilarating it is to sew free-form patchwork spirals intuitively, without a pattern or plan.
Hand and machine piecing with hand-dyed fabric, vintage calico quilt fabric, and repurposed cottons and rayon garments.
Closely spaced hand-stitched quilting sculpts the quilt, lifting the spirals above the surface.
Size: 35" x 45"
