Product Description
This fancy dancer emerged gradually as I combined scraps and fragments of patchwork, but remained unfinished for several years until I saw a way to complete the figure.
Design decisions for this quilt were improvisational and intuitive, without preplanning or any clear vision of the final result.
I added the interweaving spirals to accentuate the energy and vitality of the patchwork hoop dancer.
There was a daunting amount of hand-stitching in the creation of this piece. Although some of the patchwork was machine sewn, much of it was sewn by hand, and the figure was appliqued onto the background with needle, thread, and thimble.
To my chagrin, I couldn’t machine-stitch the spirals, and had to sew them by hand with simple embroidery stitches. All the quilting was done by hand with DMC perl cotton threads.
